Smuckers Uncrustables have become popular in the past several years for school lunches and road trips. They are a easy-on-the-go peanut butter and jelly sandwich cut and sealed in a circle, without the crust. Every child’s dream. Whenever I’m at the store I see the freezer aisle packed with them. However, they have been proven that they’re not the best thing to munch on for lunchtime because of the poor quality of the ingredients. Although Smucher’s has put out “healthier” options, they have 20 calories and 3 grams of sugar less than the original, making them only slightly healthier.
So what is the best solution? Make your homemade Uncrustables! This option is best to ensure your family is getting quality ingredients that bring nutritional value to your bodies and health. You need a few simple ingredients, bread made with whole grains, (or gluten-free bread) chia seed jelly, (or the best jelly at the grocery store), and natural peanut butter. This DIY version will also need an inexpensive sandwich sealer. If you’d like to make a large batch of them to save for later, make sure you have a freezer-safe container or freezer bag. Not only is creating your own better than the store-bought version, but you can change the ingredients to your liking!

Are Uncrustables Healthy?
Absolutely not. Uncrustables have a wide range of ingredients that have poor nutrition quality. Not to mention they are highly jacked with sugar and sodium. This article gives you the full low down on the nutritional value of Uncrstables.
Is there a healthy version of Uncrustables?
Smucker’s has created “healthier” Uncrustables since the original grape and strawberry jam sandwich was released. The healthier option comes in at 190 calories, only 20 calories less than the original. The healthier option also has less sugar and is paired with wheat bread. However, wheat bread is a combination of white and whole wheat bread, only making it slightly healthier. Always go for whole wheat products with no added sugar for the best option. As for the sugar content, the “healthier” Uncrustable contains 7 grams of sugar, still not much better.
